Fall Sun Outages can be expected to occur during the first two weeks of October. Sun outages interfere with cable service each Spring and Fall. This phenomenon affects ALL TV providers given most television programming signals are distributed via satellite.

The interruptions are a normal consequence of satellite communications. The brief interference occurs when the sun passes directly behind satellites that are transmitting cable signals. When the sun is aligned with a satellite, solar radiation interferes with the satellite’s signal and thus causes a brief signal loss.

During these occurrences, you may experience a pixelated picture, picture freezes, or audio distortions for a brief period of time. The sun outage happens only during the day lasting for a few minutes up to 45 minutes. Sun outages do not affect internet or phone service.
