Late March, Richard Kelley, CEO, submitted his resignation letter to the PES Power Board stating he had accepted a new role with Columbia Power & Water. Kelley has served as CEO for the past four years, but has been with PES for 15 years. He began his career as a part-time Engineer Aide in the Engineering department in 2003 while attending UAH.

After graduating from college, Mr. Kelley went from being a part-time employee to a full-time Engineer. Over the course of his career at PES, Kelley was promoted twice prior to being appointment CEO in February 2017. His previous roles were Engineering Manager and Chief Operating Officer.

In response to Kelley’s announcement, the PES Power Board met in a special called meeting on April 6 to discuss how to proceed until a new CEO is appointed. The Board decided that Vice Chairman, Scott Newton, will resign from the Power Board temporarily and serve as interim CEO during this time. Mr. Newton will report for duty on Monday, April 12 as Kelley’s last day in office is Friday, April 9.

“This was a hard decision for me. I have grown up in this company and love my PES family, but I am excited about the new opportunity and very confident in the PES staff to continue to do great work”; Kelley stated.

The PES Family is sad to see Mr. Kelley leave and wishes him nothing but the best as he starts a new chapter in his life.
